The Internship

Billy (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Owen Wilson) are salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world. Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship at Google, along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation's most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.

People are referring to this as a sequel to Wedding Crashers which I can understand because Vince and Owen go after this internship with the same tenacity they chased women with in Wedding Crashers.  Maybe it’s just me but I enjoy these two in comedies together, they know each other really well and play off each other with ease and are always able to draw us in to their characters with relatable qualities.  With times being as tough as they are many people can relate to this story, especially if you are chasing a dream or have recently lost your job and struggling to find another, this will inspire you to never give up and to always reach up and pull that chain.  (Flashdance reference, many in the movie.)  A big complaint of mine when changing careers is that people are so narrow minded they don’t think you can successfully do this because their heads see your resume and they don’t take the time to ask you about your skills and what you have done in your life besides your current job.  This point is brought up in the movie and it’s about time, we all have the ability to do what we want, having someone take a chance on us is the hard part.  This movie left me inspired and ready to work even harder to capture my dream, thank you Vince and Owen for yet again giving me extrinsic motivation.  I’m curious as to how many resumes Google has received since the movies release on Friday, my guess is enough to crash their servers, that’s if Google didn’t have such amazing server farms.

So lets review this fun time movie.  Vince and Owen at it again and along the way overcoming all the doubters and haters while inspiring us to do better in our own lives.  A large number of 80’s references and plenty of modern day geek references and cosplay talk to entertain the age range of 18-45.  As usual we have some great character support and fun stories that make us root for the underdogs and to remember that actual human interaction is so much better than texting and emails.  How about some Harry Potter style Quidditch where we get to see Vince play the big man on campus and kick some young ass!  Never fear we get to hear all of the smart-ass remarks we love along with the fast talking fun that Vince always delivers.  This is a fun movie with a lot of great characters and some fun situations that you are sure to enjoy.  By the way, did I mention the Will Ferrell cameo? You’re welcome.

Never give up on your dreams.

Now You See Me

Four magicians each answer a mysterious summons to an obscure address with secrets inside. A year later they are the Four Horseman big time stage illusionists who climax their sold out Las Vegas show with a bank apparently robbed for real. This puts agents Dylan Rhodes of the FBI and Alma Vargas of Interpol on the case to find out how they did it. However, this mystery proves difficult to solve even with the insights of the professional illusion exposer, Thaddeus Bradley. What follows is a bizarre investigation where nothing is what it seems with illusions, dark secrets and hidden agendas galore as all involved are reminded of a great truth in this puzzle: the closer you look, the less you see.

The closer you look, the less you see.  Remember this and pay attention during the opening monologue then use what you just heard to try and solve the mystery of the movie and it’s a lot of fun.  All the clues are given to you and to toot my own horn I was able to figure out a large clue immediately.  Going into this movie I thought it was going to be a lot of magic, but believe me it’s so much more and a great amount of fun.  If you enjoy magic this is a fun show based on them showing you how the tricks are done, it also made me want to rush out to my local magic shop and buy a starter kit so I can become the next Burt Wonderstone.  Let me break this down, action, mystery, magic, great cast, and a lot of fun equals the perfect combination for a great time at the movies.  Remember; come in close, because the more you think you see, the easier it will be to fool you.

5 out of 5 rabbits in a hat.
