Pain & Gain

A trio of bodybuilders in Florida gets caught up in an extortion ring and a kidnapping scheme that goes terribly wrong.

So it has been a little too long since I have posted on my blog and I apologize to all 3 of you that read it.  I understand why some people are critical of Michael Bay and his movies but I will be the first to defend him and this movie.  Most people don’t realize in the movie business that you find what you do best and do it.  Mr. Bay is great at blowing shit up and he has a great vision for action movies.  With that said, if you have seen other Michael Bay movies you will recognize some of his favorite camera moves in this movie, such as his 360 spin around the wall and through the doors with two different scenes taking place on either side of the wall.  For not having any explosions or robots in this movie Michael Bay was able to pull off a great story about one of the craziest true stories ever.  Mark Wahlberg plays one of the greatest “doers” I have ever seen, along with Dwayne Johnson playing one of is best characters to date and Anthony Mackie playing along with a character suffering from erectile dysfunction and a love of big women.  As the movie plays out you find yourself thinking that Michael Bay must have made most of this story up but he has a fun way of reminding you that it’s still a true story.  Yes, it’s a Michael Bay film, and yes we are used to nonstop action with a Bay film.  But, you must remember this is a true story that doesn’t involve a lot of action, just a lot of stupidity by 3 guys who wanted nothing more than the American dream.

Enjoy the show.  4 out of 5 protein shakes.

Oblivion

One of the few remaining drone repairmen assigned to Earth, its surface devastated after decades of war with the alien Scavs, discovers a crashed spacecraft with contents that bring into question everything he believed about the war, and may even put the fate of mankind in his hands.

If you enjoy science fiction movies you need to get off your butt and see this movie.  Oblivion is the epitome of why we (I) love Sci-Fi, because they are great stories that are involved and make us think.  The CGI is amazing, not to mention the cool environments and transportation they created.  Tom Cruise is great as always and to see him and Morgan Freeman on screen together is some thing I would enjoy seeing again.  Morgan doesn’t have a lot of screen time in this movie but when he is on camera he makes the most of it.  Some say the movie is too long, that’s just silly, and it’s a visually excellent movie with the right combination of action and mystery to satisfy any level of Sci-Fi lover.

Enjoy the show.
