Planes

Dusty is a crop dusting plane who dreams of competing in a famous aerial race. The problem? He is hopelessly afraid of heights. With the support of his mentor Skipper and a host of new friends, Dusty sets off to make his dreams come true.

Animated movies are a blast and I’m usually first in line to see them, but there is no need to rush out and see this one.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s good movie but if you are expecting something along the lines of Cars, you will be a little upset.  The story is similar to Cars but it’s not able to keep the same pace.  Let’s start from the beginning, with what is a slow start and some jokes that fall short.  Luckily, as the story progresses the pace picks up along with the jokes and becomes a not so bad movie.  With that said I’m speaking from an adult point of view, as I let my inner child come out I had a fun time with all the action and adventure.  From the reactions of the kids around me in the theater it seems that Planes is going to be a success, not as successful as Cars but it’s the lure of Cars that will draw all the kids to this one.

We're The Millers

A veteran pot dealer creates a fake family as part of his plan to move a huge shipment of weed into the U.S. from Mexico.  Not that they're really bad sorts, of course, just victims of their own low horizons and not getting their acts together. David (Jason Sudeikis) is still the loosey-goosey neighborhood pot dealer he was in college. After being robbed of all he's worth, he's also susceptible to the entreaties of his loaded old pal and supplier, Brad (Ed Helms), to work as a mule to bring a “smidge” of drugs back to Denver from south of the border.
Two words describe this show.  Jennifer Aniston.  She is a fine wine, she keeps getting better with age and she shows us just how much better she has become.  Her scenes in the strip club, and her strip tease in the mechanic shop are absolutely fabulous and worth seeing again.  That’s out of the way so now we can talk about much fun this movie is.  I was thinking that it was going to be faster paced as advertised in the trailers, but to my surprise the level of action, and comedy was just about right.  The jokes were perfect, the setups were great, and the situations were a lot of fun.  Nick Offerman, and Kathryn Hahn play a nosey love starved couple that are looking for a little spark in the romance department and happen to be on vacation and find themselves involved with the Miller’s.  Jason Sudeikis has a lot of fun with this character and it’s enjoyable to watch the Miller family progression, and how they are all able to help one another along the way and create a “family” bond.  Critics are down on this movie and that’s a shame, it is a lot of fun with a great cast, and sure to bring laughs to all that see it.

Percy Jackson Sea Of Monsters

In this retelling of Rick Riordans book, "The Sea of Monsters", Percy Jackson, accompanied by his friends Annabeth Chase, Clarisse La Rue and Tyson, his half brother, goes on a journey to the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the Golden Fleece and save Camp Half-Blood.

I would love to be able to talk all about this movie but having crazy adults, and kids around me who talked, farted, ate loudly, used their phones, and absolutely had no idea what was going on with the story because it was way above their intellectual level, I was just a tiny bit distracted.  Despite all these distractions I enjoyed this movie more than the first, maybe it was Alexandra Daddario, and Leven Rambin that made it so much fun to watch, whatever it was it had a great mixture of comedy, fun, action, and story to keep me entertained for 100 minutes.  There are plenty of directions they can go with the stories and they have set this one up very well for a follow up movie.  I highly recommend this movie if you enjoyed the first one, even if you thought the first one could have been better, I guarantee you will enjoy this one.

2 Guns

Washington and Wahlberg play Bobby (Washington) and Stig (Wahlberg), respectively, a couple of undercover agents working the Mexican drug cartel of one Papi Greco (Edward James Olmos). The twist is, Bobby and Stig are working for different agencies - Bobby for the DEA and Stig for naval intelligence - and neither knows the other's secret. After they decide to steal $3 million from Greco's bank, the cat gets out of the bag, and the two are forced to work on saving each other's skin. What they believed to be $3 million is actually $43 million. The money belongs to the CIA, and it isn't long before the number of people each man can trust gets dwindled down to only each other.
Finally a fun buddy movie has come back to Hollywood!  Many have tried and many have failed to deliver the next Lethal Weapon type movie.  This isn’t quite on par with the Lethal Weapon franchise but it’s sure a good time.  A little short on the action but the scenes it does have are a lot of fun.  Denzel plays a tough no nonsense character that we are used to from him but he tones it down a little for this character and he was fun to watch.  Wahlberg keeps impressing from movie to movie and this is a great character he plays, straight forward and not a care in the world of what people think of him.  Bill Paxton, easily the coolest guy in Hollywood and is one of the most solid actors who is going to hand over a solid performance in everything he does which is going to put him in the same category as John Malkovich who always creates amazing characters.  Mr. Paxton is a scene-stealer and I hope Hollywood will soon wise up and realize he deserves to be in so much more.  Paula Patton is Denzel’s handler for the D.E.A. who is kidnapped by the cartel in exchange for the 43 million that Washington and Wahlberg must return to keep her alive.  Trust me guys you will not forget an early scene in the movie with a topless Paula Patton and Denzel.  Speaking of which, how is it that People magazine has not voted her sexiest woman alive?  I’m off track so let’s get back to business.  This is a fun buddy action movie with some great action, and a fun story, not as fast paced as most action movies but I was okay with it because it was an overall solid story with fun characters.  Grab your popcorn, friends, seat, and girlfriend and settle in for a good time.  See this one in ETX or whichever theater you enjoy with a great sound system.

Enjoy the show.  4 out of 5 heads in a bag.

Grown Ups 2

After having the greatest time of his life three summers ago, Lenny (Adam Sandler), decides he wants to move his family back to his hometown and have them grow up with his gang of childhood friends and their kids. But between old bullies, new bullies, schizophrenic bus drivers, drunk cops on skis, psycho grade school girlfriends and 400 costumed party crashes he finds out that sometimes crazy follows you.

Beautiful women and a who’s who of past Saturday Night Live actors is a great way to breakdown this movie.  There is no one in the entertainment business more loyal than Adam Sandler and that is something you really have to admire about him.  How do you fit all these people into a movie and make it fun?  Easy, you have a giant house party that ends in a huge fight with a bunch of young punks that I can only say is something we have all dreamed about.  Silly humor, and physical comedy is bound to happen in Adam Sandler movies and he delivers yet again.  Nick Swardson takes most of the abuse this time, while Shaquille O’Neal and Dan Patrick offer up some funny characters.  Adam is know for his generosity and also upgrading people on set giving newcomers a chance, and after this movie believe me you will know who April Rose is.  Great movie that relates to families and opens your eyes to what is important in life.  We all have stupid, silly, embarrassing, awkward, scared, regretful, and so many more moments in life and they have done a great job putting life on film with a lot of silly moments that actually are very touching.  If you are looking for some good laughs and a movie to remind you that the fun never has to die, then checkout Grown Ups 2.
